“Most of the time, the photographed person is unaware of my camera, but not always”, Jens van der Velde says. “However, aware or unaware of the camera, the final image often surprises the portayed person, since - the unposed personality was given unconsiously.”
His remarkable style, combined with the unique way in which he presented his graduation portfolio, made his work stand out in 2008. After this exposition Hilfiger Denim commissioned him to photograph Marky Ramone (the drummer of the band “The Ramones”) in Amsterdam and Barcelona. His photographs are used for music, fashion and other purposes.

In 2009 he received two PANL Awards for a Tommy Hilfiger fashion series. In the beginning of this year his work was nominated for the Lex van Rossen Award 2010. From December 2009 till January 2010 Jens had solo exposition in Panama* - Amsterdam.
